Advanced Open Water
This is the next step after the Open Water Diver course, and it is one of our favorites! Advanced Open Water gives you the opportunity to further develop your basic skills while adding confidence and experience to your knowledge and skill base. You will focus each of the 5 knowledge development chapters and corresponding dives on one topic such as navigation, buoyancy, and deep diving. You can even add your artwork to our collection of Fish ID Dive sketches!
Requirements:
-12 years of age or older
-Open Water/Junior Open Water Diver (or equivalent certification from another approved organization)
Knowledge Development:
-Choose the e-learning or book option for your home-study
- Read through the 2 required chapters: Deep Diving & Underwater Navigation
- For the remaining 3 chapters, we strongly recommend Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck Diving, and your favorite between Fish ID or Search & Recovery
Certification Dives:
-The dives will take place over a weekend at Dutch Springs (or over 2 or more days during a trip)
-Each of the 5 dives will correspond directly with the 5 Knowledge Development chapters you reviewed
-Required Deep Dive: Prior to the deep dive we will discuss the additional planning requirements and challenges to consider for deeper dives. Our deep dive will take us past 60 feet, and you will execute skills which will illustrate why we need to factor in those additional considerations
-Required Underwater Navigation Dive: First we will practice compass skills and counting kick cycles on land (this is always entertaining to watch!), and discuss natural navigation. During the dive, you will execute a few navigation patterns, while using kick cycles and natural navigation to assist you.
-Additional 3 dives will focus on everything from buoyancy control, exploring wrecks, analyzing fish populations, and practicing search patterns to locate a lost object and utilizing knots and lift bags to properly bring the item to the surface.
Certification:
Upon completion of the 5 dives, you will be trained to a maximum depth of 100 feet, and will be able to explore even more of the underwater world!
